Professional Mediator Practicum (1 year minimum)

This practicum offers extensive experience mediating with a senior mediator.  After successfully completing all the steps in the practicum, a Mediator Practitioner Certification will be awarded with the recommendation of the DRC Director.

Resolving Conflict in the Workplace

Areas of focus include: assessing and working with different conflict styles, learning needed skills for difficult conversations, and working through a four-step process you can use when in conflict with another person.

Fulcrum Institute Dispute Resolution Clinic

Interest Based Mediation Training - This basic mediation training is offer three times each year.              2008 Classes are offered April 14-18, July 21-25, and October 2-24.    This course is approved by the Idaho Mediation Association, meets the Washington Mediation Association for certification and is approved by the Washington State Bar for Continuing Legal Education Credits.  (Idaho State Bar CLE pending)

Child Custody and Family Law Mediation Training - The mediation course is offered three times each year.  2008 Classes are offered May 17-18, July 12-13, and November 15-16.  This course is approved by the Idaho Mediation Association, meets the Washington Mediation Association for certification and is approved by the Washington State Bar for Continuing Legal Education Credits. (Idaho State Bar CLE pending)

Advanced Mediation Training - This course if for certified mediators.  The 2008 course dates are May 31 and Nov 22.

King County DRC

Basic Mediation Training (40 hours):

If you would like to become a mediator, this class is the foundation.  This class will build your skills in communication, conflict management, facilitating difficult conversations and creating effective working relationships.

Feb 11-22,    April 17-25,    June 20-30, and    Nov 5-14                                                                 Times: 8:30-5:30 p.m.  $675.00 Lunch Provided

Family Mediation Training: (24 hours)

This 24-hour course will build on your mediation skills to enable you to add family mediation to your skill set.  You will learn to mediate divorce and separation of unmarried couples, including developing parenting plans and resolving property and financial issues.

Dealing With Difficult Situations With Tenants: (7 hours)

This is an excellent training for landlords and managers to learn to become more effective in handling the most common conflicts with tenants.

Communication & Negotiation Skills for Collaborative Partners:

Learn how to identify your clients' underlying interests: practice active listening in the context of collaborative law; identify conflict styles and their impact; discover strategies for breaking deadlocks, and work effectively with the interdisciplinary team.  Designed specifically for collaborative partners.

Dealing with  Mental Health Issues in Housing: 

When residents of rental housing have mental issues, the methods used to resolve conflicts with and between them need to be tailored to meet their special needs.  Learn how to increase your effectiveness in dealing with this population of tenants using a model that respectfully addresses the constraints of the situation.

Got Workplace Conflict?: (21 Hours)

A 3-day series to help you address conflict with your co-workers, employees and supervisors.  This training will help you prepare for difficult conversations, manage highly charged situations, negotiate successfully and generate solutions that meet everyone's needs.
